Grand Valley State University Constructs Health Professions Building

Grand Valley State University will begin construction in December of 2016 on a $37.5 million facility for the College of Health Professions and the College of Nursing. Located in Grand Rapids, Mich., the five-story, 84,000-sf Finkelstein Hall will provide 15 teaching labs, four classrooms, two departmental suites, a computer lab, and 90 faculty and staff offices. The architect for the project is Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber and the construction manager is Rockford Construction. Completion is expected in May of 2018.

University of North Carolina Wilmington Constructs Allied Health Building

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will begin construction in January of 2018 on the $66 million Allied Health Building. Designed by EYP, the 170,000-sf facility will house the College of Health and Human Services, providing classrooms and labs for programs in nursing, health science, clinical research, and social work. The construction manager is W.M. Jordan. The project will be delivered in phases with completion expected by early 2020.

University of North Texas Breaks Ground on Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building

The University of North Texas broke ground in October of 2016 on the Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building in Fort Worth. Supported by $80 million in state funding, the 173,000-sf facility will accommodate a progressive, team-based pedagogy for health sciences and interprofessional education. Designed by Treanor Architects, the building will house the College of Pharmacy, the North Texas Eye Research Institute, and the Institute for Molecular and Therapeutic Development.

Appalachian State University Builds College of Health Sciences

Appalachian State University is building a $79 million facility for the Beaver College of Health Sciences in Boone, N.C. Designed by LS3P, the 203,000-sf project will consolidate teaching and research space currently dispersed in seven buildings across campus, and will accommodate programs such as nursing, nutrition, exercise science, social work, and health care management.

University of Nebraska Medical Center Plans Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is planning to build the $102 million Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning in Omaha. The 183,742-sf facility will act as the headquarters of an initiative called iEXCEL (Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning) and will feature virtual immersive reality environments for medical training. The project will also provide collaborative space for engineers, graphic artists, and instructional design experts to develop and research new learning tools and techniques.
