Wright State University Breaks Ground on Neuroscience Engineering Collaboration Building
Wright State University broke ground on the $37 million Neuroscience Engineering Collaboration Building on April 25, 2013. Located in Fairborn, Ohio, the four-story, 90,000-sf facility will provide laboratories, offices, a 105-seat auditorium, and a four-story atrium. The multidisciplinary project will support translational neuroscience research with labs and cleanrooms for the development of new medical technologies. Completion is expected in February of 2015.
Brigham Young University Constructs Life Sciences Building
Brigham Young University is constructing the 265,000-sf Life Sciences Building in Provo, Utah. The five-story research and instructional facility will provide 70 faculty offices, 16 teaching labs, four conference rooms, and three auditoriums. The general contractor for the project is Okland Construction. Ground was broken on the project in late 2011 and occupancy is expected in late 2014.
University of Sydney Builds Medical Research and Education Facility
The University of Sydney is building the $385 million Charles Perkins Centre on its Camperdown campus. Housing 950 researchers and 1,455 undergraduates, the 502,680-sf biomedical teaching and research facility will provide five 60-seat dry labs and two wet teaching labs, one with seating for 12 and the other able to accommodate 240 occupants. Supporting research on conditions such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, the multidisciplinary project will include a flow cytometry suite, clinical research space, a biobank, and advanced imaging technologies.
Horia Hulubei Institute Plans Extreme Light Infrastructure Facility
Horia Hulubei National Research Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering has selected Strabag/ED Zublin to build the Extreme Light Infrastructure facility in Magurele, Romania. The $465 million project will support laser-based nuclear physics research using gamma rays created by a particle accelerator coupled with a laser. Completion is expected in 2014. After equipment installation and building commissioning, research will commence in the facility in 2017.
Helmholtz Center Designs Diabetes Research Building
The Helmholtz Center Munich has selected HDR TMK to design the new Center of Integrated Diabetes Research in Germany. The four-story facility will include more than 50,000 sf of space dedicated to multidisciplinary diabetes research. HDR TMK will provide architectural, laboratory planning, and contract administration services for the approximately $41.6 million building. The BSL-2 life sciences center will facilitate basic research, translational research, epidemiology, and clinical applications as they relate to diabetes.
