ORNL Dedicates Chemical and Materials Sciences Building

Oak Ridge National Laboratory dedicated the $95 million Chemical and Materials Sciences Building in July of 2011. The three-story, 160,000-sf facility houses equipment suites, 56 laboratories, 164 offices, and 91 modular workstations for the development of advanced energy products and technologies. The Chemical and Material Sciences Building houses two DOE Energy Frontier Research Centers, the Center for Fluid Interface Reaction Structure and Transport (FIRST) and the Center for Defect Physics (CDP).

Indiana University Health Builds Neuroscience Center

Indiana University Health is building the 270,000-sf Neuroscience Center in Indianapolis. Located on the IU Health Methodist Hospital campus, the six-story outpatient facility will include clinical and research diagnostic imaging, surgical suites, collaboration and education space, and a robotic laboratory. Occupancy is expected in summer of 2012. The outpatient facility is the first phase of IU Health’s $120 million neuroscience complex. An adjacent research facility is expected to open in 2013.

Bosch Opens Photovoltaics Competence Center

Bosch opened its photovoltaics competence center in July of 2011 in Arnstadt, Germany. The $757 million facility provides R&D and manufacturing space as well as housing the company’s solar energy division headquarters. The duration of construction was two years.

JSR Corporation Completes Korean R&D Facility

JSR Corporation completed construction of a $13 million R&D facility in July of 2011 in Seoul, Korea. The three-story, 43,000-sf project houses research laboratories for the creation of advanced liquid crystal display (LCD) products and technologies. Construction began on the facility in September of 2010.

University College Cork Plans Maritime Research and Testing Centre

University College Cork is planning to build a Maritime Research and Testing Centre at the National Maritime College of Ireland. Located in Ringaskiddy, the 55,240-sf project comprises a three-story laboratory building and a single-story, high-bay marine testing facility. The design architect is McCullough Mulvin Architects of Dublin.
