Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre Opens Translational Research Lab

Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre will open its new translational research laboratory in October of 2010. The $15.8 million facility is located on the expanded third floor of the Cancer Centre and includes drug development and testing suites for advanced biomedical therapies. The project is supported by $9.5 million in federal funding.

University of Pittsburgh Initiates Biomedical Renovation

The University of Pittsburgh will renovate 44,525 sf in the Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower to house the Vascular Medicine Institute and the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. The project is supported by $14 million in federal stimulus funding. The renovation will create modern, open laboratory space with associated support and chemical fume hood alcoves.

JTC Develops Tuas Medical Equipment Cluster

JTC Corporation will develop an 185,000-sm medical equipment manufacturing cluster in the Tukang Innovation Park in Singapore. The first 75,000-sm phase is slated for completion by 2013. Additionally, JTC will construct an Offshore Marine Center in the Tuas district to provide companies with waterfront access facilities. Completion of the center is expected in 2011

NOAA Builds Pacific Regional Center Facility in Honolulu

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has selected Walsh Construction Company of Chicago to build the final phase of the Pacific Regional Center on Ford Island in Honolulu. The project includes construction of the main facility at the site and is supported by $131.9 million in federal stimulus funding. Existing renovated space will be integrated with the new building to great a 300,000-sf lab and office facility.

University of Illinois at Chicago Creates Oral Health Research Facility

The University of Illinois at Chicago will renovate 23,000 sf of existing space to create an interdisciplinary oral health research facility. The project is supported by $9.9 million in federal stimulus funding and includes 9,000 sf of new research space. The facility will house a vivarium for animal research, core facilities, and laboratories for clinical and translational research. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
