Analytical Bio-Chemistry Laboratories initiated a $4.2 million expansion and renovation of its research facilities in Columbia, Mo., in early spring of 2010. The project will provide laboratories for the company's chemical division. Completion is expected in June of 2010. The general contractor for the project is ARCO Construction of St. Louis.

The National Cancer Institute is building the $250 million Advanced Technology Research Facility in Frederick, Md. Construction began on the project in fall of 2009 with completion expected in 2012. Located in the Riverside Research Park, the 330,000-sf biomedical research building will house laboratories and offices. The National Cancer Institute is managed by the National Institutes of Health.

Pioneer Hi-bred, a subsidiary of DuPont, will begin construction in September of 2010 on a $40 million expansion of its research facilities in Johnston, Iowa. Supporting research and development in plant genetics, the 200,000-sf project will house laboratories in multiple connected buildings. Occupancy is slated for early 2012.

The College of the Holy Cross celebrated the opening of the $63 million Integrated Science Complex in March of 2010. Located in Worcester, Mass., the four-story facility provides 142,000 gsf of new and renovated classroom, lecture, research, and laboratory space. Designed to foster interaction and collaboration, the interdisciplinary complex includes an atrium, conference rooms, and shared equipment suites. The Integrated Science Complex is comprised of the Park B. and Linda Smith Laboratories and the renovated Haberlin Hall.

Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis will begin construction in fall of 2010 on an expansion of its genomics data center. Doubling the size of the existing 16,000-sf facility, the completed 32,000-sf building will house advanced sequencing and bioinformatics technologies. The project is supported by $14.3 million in stimulus funding from the National Center for Research Resources.
