Michigan Technological University Plans Great Lakes Research Center

Michigan Technological University is planning to break ground in spring of 2010 on the $25.3 million Great Lakes Research Center in Houghton. The 49,500-sf facility will house aquatic laboratories, offices, conference rooms, a hydraulics lab, coastal research instrumentation, and boathouse facilities. The Great Lakes Research Center will also provide space for collaborative research with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Research and Development Center Environmental Laboratory in Vicksburg, Miss.

Michigan State University Breaks Grounds on Renewable Energy Center

Michigan State University broke ground on the $1.8 million Center for Renewable Energy Research and Technology Transfer in East Lansing in November of 2009. Providing over 6,000-sf of research space, the building will house the International Renewable Energy Technology Institute and an emissions laboratory. Completion is expected in mid-2010.

Weill Cornell Medical College Constructs Cancer Research Facility

Site work has begun on Weill Cornell Medical College's $650 million Medical Research Building in New York. The 480,000-sf facility will feature a Cancer Center supporting interdisciplinary and translational research. Laboratories will occupy 13 floors of the building. Completion is expected in July of 2013.

Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre Breaks Ground in Australia

Site work began in fall of 2009 on the Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Victoria. Delivered as a public-private partnership, the $1 billion facility will support collaborative research for the University of Melbourne, the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Melbourne Health, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, and the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Indiana University Dedicates Innovation Center

Indiana University dedicated the $10 million IU Innovation Center in Bloomington in November of 2009. Providing laboratories and offices for bioscience and information technology companies, the two-story, 40,000-sf business incubator includes wet lab space. Construction began on the Innovation Center in November of 2008 and reached completion in August of 2009. LEED certification for sustainable design will be sought for the facility.
