University of Michigan Health System Opens Brighton Center for Specialty Care
The University of Michigan Health System opened the $175 million Brighton Center for Specialty Care in September of 2018. Offering over 50 adult and pediatric specialty services, the two-story, 297,000-sf ambulatory care facility provides a comprehensive musculoskeletal center, surgical suites, a sleep lab, an infusion therapy clinic, and a radiation oncology center. The project also houses the Kellogg Eye Center, a cardiovascular clinic, and a magnetic resonance imaging suite.
University of Alabama at Birmingham Opens School of Nursing
The University of Alabama at Birmingham opened the School of Nursing in September of 2018. Designed by Payette in collaboration with Williams Blackstock Architects, the $32 million project included renovation of an existing structure and construction of a 72,000-sf addition to provide leading-edge classrooms, research labs, offices, and collaboration spaces. The Nursing Competency Suite accommodates simulation training and testing activities, and the Innovation Collaboratory offers interactive workstations for group learning and discovery.
University of Tennessee Opens Mossman Science Center
The University of Tennessee opened the $118 million Ken and Blaire Mossman Building in September of 2018 in Knoxville. Designed by McCarty Holsaple McCarty and Lord Aeck Sargent to promote interdepartmental collaboration, the six-story, 222,000-sf facility accommodates programs in microbiology, biochemistry, psychology, nutrition, and cellular and molecular biology.
Nova Southeastern University Creates Tampa Bay Health Sciences Campus
Nova Southeastern University is building a $200 million health sciences complex in Clearwater, Fla. Ground was broken in March of 2018 on the 325,000-sf facility, which will house the colleges of osteopathic medicine, nursing, health care sciences, psychology, and education. The project team includes Baker Barrios Architects, general contractor Moss & Associates, Florida Design Consultants, Finfrock Construction, and Cox Fire Protection.
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Opens Prairie Springs Science Center
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse opened the $82 million Prairie Springs Science Center in September of 2018. Designed by SmithGroupJJR and River Architects, the 187,000-sf facility houses the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geography/Earth Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, and River Studies, as well as accommodating the offices of the Dean of the College of Science and Health.
