Emory University Breaks Ground on Rollins Public Health Building
Emory University broke ground on the Claudia Nance Rollins Building in Atlanta on May 30, 2008. The 160,000-sf facility is part of the Rollins School of Public Health and is supported by a $50 million philanthropic donation. Connected by a glass bridge to the existing 137,000-sf School of Public Health facility, the multistory building will open in 2010. Designed to foster collaboration with industry partners and the U.S.
DuPont Builds Hong Kong R&D Center
DuPont will initiate construction in 2008 on a new R&D center in Hong Kong. Additionally, the company will build a manufacturing and production plant in Shenzhen, China. Both facilities will support the development and production of photovoltaic technologies including thin film solar arrays.
Air Force Partners with UDRI on Alternative Fuel Research Facility
The Air Force Research Laboratory is partnering with University of Dayton Research Institute to build and operate an alternative fuel research facility at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. The 4,000-sf Alternative Aerospace Fuels Research Facility, located near the existing Fuels and Lubricants Laboratory, will support the creation of jet fuel from coal and biomass. Completion is slated for summer of 2010.
UCSF Plans Neuroscience Facility
The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) is planning to construct the $105-million, 180,000-sf Neuroscience Research Building. Housing laboratory and clinical space for 78 principal investigators, the facility will built at the University’s Mission Bay campus.
Bosch Builds Reutlingen Semiconductor Fab
The Bosch Group is building a €550 million fab for 200 millimeter semiconductors in Reutlingen, Germany. The facility began construction in fall of 2007 with production commencing in mid-2009. The plant will be able to produce 1,000 silicon wafers per day and will support Bosch’s automotive electronics business operations, including MEMS and micromachined chip technologies.
