University of Aberystwyth Plans BSL-3 Veterinary Hub

The University of Aberystwyth is planning to create VetHub 1, a human and animal health research facility in the United Kingdom. Located on the Penglais campus in Aberystwyth, the project includes the renovation and expansion of an existing 5,231-sf structure to provide three BSL-3 labs, two BSL-2 labs, and associated office spaces. The facility will support the development of new products, diagnostic tests, and strategies for the nation's agricultural, veterinary, and biotechnology industries.

Hackensack Meridian Health Opens HOPE Tower at Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Hackensack Meridian Health opened the $265 million HOPE Tower at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in June of 2018. Located in Neptune, N.J. the 10-story, 300,000-sf cancer research and treatment facility features a 58,000-sf patient care center offering radiation therapy, medical oncology, surgical specialties, and minimally invasive therapies. The tower also includes biomedical research labs, a 6,500-sf simulation training center, a 200-seat conference auditorium, a clinical trials center, and space for academic programs.

NYU Langone Health Opens Kimmel Pavilion and Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital

NYU Langone Health opened the Helen L. & Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion and the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital in June of 2018 in New York. The 21-story, 830,000-sf Kimmel Pavilion provides 374 private patient rooms, 30 surgical rooms, a conference center, and an outdoor roof terrace. The facility offers acute and critical care services in neuroscience, hematology–oncology, cardiothoracic care, and bone marrow and solid organ transplantation.

Kansas City University Breaks Ground on Center for Medical Education

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences broke ground in June of 2018 on the $33 million Center for Medical Education Innovation. Accommodating physician medical education and interprofessional health science programs, the collaborative four-story facility will include standardized patient rooms, high-fidelity simulation suites, a virtual skills simulation deck, and a simulation command center.

Highline College Constructs Health and Life Sciences Building

Highline College will begin construction in summer of 2018 on the 46,000-sf Health and Life Sciences Building in Des Moines. Designed by McGranahan Architects, the $30 million project includes construction of an addition and the complete renovation of Building 26. Providing flexible, integrated learning environments, the completed facility will offer classrooms, labs, faculty offices, and study spaces.
