University of Maryland Eastern Shore Opens Pharmacy and Health Professions Building
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened the Pharmacy and Health Professions Building in April of 2023 in Princess Anne, Md. Designed by Shepley Bulfinch and Ayers Saint Gross, the 120,000-sf facility features state-of-the-art teaching labs and simulation spaces for the School of Pharmacy, as well as accommodating courses in kinesiology, physician assistance, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
University of British Columbia Begins Construction on Gateway Building
The University of British Columbia began construction in December of 2022 on the CAD$180 million Gateway Building in Vancouver. Designed by Perkins&Will and Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the 267,000-sf project will offer sophisticated facilities for interprofessional education including wet and dry labs, high-fidelity simulation suites, flexible classrooms, and four large lecture halls.
Galveston College Constructs Health Sciences Education Center
Galveston College is constructing the $34 million Health Sciences Education Center to provide leading-edge facilities for its nursing and allied health programs. Designed by PBK Architects, the 64,000-sf building will include sophisticated classrooms, interactive lecture halls, teaching labs, simulation suites, faculty offices, and study spaces.
University of New England Breaks Ground on Alfond Center for Health Sciences
The University of New England broke ground in late November of 2022 on the $93 million Harold and Bibby Alfond Center for Health Sciences in Portland, Maine. Collocating the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Institute for Inter-Professional Education, the 109,000-sf structure will address a state-wide shortage of physicians while accommodating allied health programs in nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, physician assistance, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and social work.
University of Utah Breaks Ground on Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine
The University of Utah broke ground in October of 2022 on the $185 million Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. Designed by VCBO and Yazdani Studio of CannonDesign, the 185,000-sf facility will feature flexible learning studios that can be subdivided to accommodate a variety of class sizes. With integrated technologies to support hybrid and remote instruction, the highly collaborative structure will include a state-of-the-art simulation center and a modern gross anatomy lab.
