Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Unveiled

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is scheduled to open in December 2001. Designed by architect Rafael Vinoly, the $265-million facility features the 2,500-seat cello-shaped Verizon Hall with acoustics by Artec, Inc.  Housing 650 seats and a turntable stage, the Perelman Theater contains an all-weather indoor plaza for free performances, studio and rehearsal space, a cafe and restaurant, and a gift shop.

Dilbert's Ultimate Cubicle Takes Shape in San Francisco

Scott Adams, cartoon creator of the Dilbert comic strip, is working with design firm IDEO of San Francisco to develop “Dilbert’s Ultimate Cubicle”—an almost office-sized prototype for a workspace comprised of orange and white translucent plastic modules. The modules each perform a different function—file storage, cooler, coat hanger, fish tank—and could be configured by employees to create their own ideal workspace.

Deere & Co. Occupies New Training Center

Deere & Co., based in Moline, Ill., moved into a 12,500-sf training facility in August at the Commonwealth Park II development in Morrisville, a short distance from Cary, N.C., where the company is building a new division headquarters. Three classrooms, three labs, a conference room plus some unfinished space will provide product training space for the company's employees. At build-out, the company's nearby Cary campus will house up to 2,000 employees.
