CarolinaEast and UNC Health Care Break Ground on Comprehensive Cancer Center
CarolinaEast Medical Center and UNC Health Care broke ground in January of 2017 on the SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center in New Bern, N.C. Supported by charitable contributions from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation, the $35 million facility will enable CarolinaEast to provide consolidated cancer services in a single location. The 80,000-sf project is located next to the John and Reba Aylward Diagnostic Center and is slated for completion in late spring of 2018.
Mohawk Valley Health System Plans Integrated Medical Campus
Mohawk Valley Health System will begin construction in mid-2018 on a $480 million integrated medical campus in Utica, N.Y. Featuring collocated acute care, clinical care, and outpatient services, the 750,000-sf facility will provide 400 private inpatient rooms when it opens in mid-2021. The project was designed by NBBJ and is being built by Turner Construction.
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Expands Education and Research Centre
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) began construction in January of 2017 on a $10 million expansion of the Education and Research Centre at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. The three-story, 30,000-sf addition will provide multifunctional tutorial rooms, an atrium, research labs, conference rooms, and open-plan faculty offices. The general contractor for the project is The Stewart Group and completion is expected in mid-2018.
Medical College of Wisconsin Constructs Wauwatosa Administrative Building
The Medical College of Wisconsin is constructing a $90 million administrative building in Wauwatosa. Designed by Flad Architects to enhance collaboration and interaction, the eight-story, 318,000-sf facility will house 1,500 occupants, including clinicians, researchers, faculty members, and administrative staff. Construction manager CG Schmidt broke ground on the project in March of 2016 and completion of the first phase is expected in fall of 2017. Subsequent phases will open in late 2017 and early 2018.
University of Arizona Constructs Health Sciences Innovation Building
The University of Arizona is building the $165 million Health Sciences Innovation Building in Tucson. Designed by CO Architects, the ten-story, 226,000-sf facility will feature simulation training suites for programs in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and public health. A minimum of LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the fast-track project, which will also provide clinical laboratories and a variety of group learning areas.
