Gerald is a licensed registered architect and has served in various facilities-related positions at the University of Missouri over the past 32 years. He began his career at MU as the ADA project manager in Design Services with a focus on bringing the MU campus into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act by overseeing the design and construction of over 900 accessibility projects in over 100 facilities. Gerald then transitioned into Construction Project Management where for 16 years, he managed a total of $125 million in new construction and renovation projects at MU. Gerald joined MU Space Planning & Management as a Director in 2015. SP&M provides quality space solutions for the MU campus, negotiating space assignments and reassignments with Deans, Directors, Vice Chancellors and other administrators on campus. In 2017, Gerald led his team in a Space Reduction and Strategic Relocation Initiative that to date has saved the university more than $5.1 million in annual operating costs and eliminated more than $147 million in deferred building maintenance and capital improvement needs through divestment or demolition of poor performing buildings. A large part of this undertaking included the revision of campus office, classroom and teaching lab space guidelines and the installation of a mandatory annual Space Utilization Inventory survey in order to assure that the University is working with accurate data as we reimagine space opportunities on campus. As current higher-education changes motivate the University to explore new opportunities to make campus space more efficient, Gerald and his staff are currently collaborating with a master planning consultant on their next phase – a space efficiency study which will require deeper thinking about campus policies and shared resources in order to accomplish space efficiencies and reduction.
