Huntsman Cancer Institute Breaks Ground on Vineyard Comprehensive Cancer Center
Huntsman Cancer Institute broke ground on the Vineyard Comprehensive Cancer Center in April of 2025 in Vineyard, Utah. Designed by Architectural Nexus and Sasaki, the 272,000-sf facility will expand access to world-class treatment for the rapidly growing population in the state and the greater Mountain West region. The five-story clinical care building will be connected to a three-story research structure by a community engagement and education hub with conference rooms.
Simmons University Partners with Skanska to Create Longwood Place
Simmons University is partnering with Skanska to create Longwood Place, a vibrant nexus for research, work, and community engagement in Boston. Featuring 2.6 acres of public space, the mixed-use project will leverage sophisticated amenities to transform the district into a destination for economic growth and innovation. The redevelopment of the university’s residential campus in Fenway will provide over 1.3 million sf of Class A lab and office environments, retail and community venues, and approximately 380 housing units.
Brown University Builds Indoor Turf Facility
Brown University is constructing a 76,000-sf indoor turf facility to expand capacity for varsity, intramural, and recreational sports activities. Designed by Sasaki, the versatile building will address a critical need for year-round indoor practice space, offering a controlled environment where athletes can maintain their competitive edge regardless of weather conditions.
Virginia Tech Opens First Phase of Innovation Campus
Virginia Tech opened the first building on its Innovation Campus in Alexandria in January of 2025. SmithGroup designed the 300,000-gsf facility to provide leading-edge environments for academic and research programs in computer science and engineering, as well as space for the Pamplin College of Business. Featuring specialized laboratories, a drone testing cage, and a two-story maker space, the 11-story development houses 14 classrooms, wellness venues for students and faculty, and the 3,000-sf Boeing Auditorium.
Virginia Tech Breaks Ground on Alexandria Innovation Campus
Virginia Tech broke ground in fall of 2021 on the first academic building on its Innovation Campus in Alexandria. Designed by SmithGroup, the 300,000-gsf facility will offer experiential learning environments, maker spaces, flexible multipurpose areas, faculty offices, and research and testing labs for the school's graduate programs in computer science and engineering.
