The University of Virginia is planning to create the Emmet Ivy Corridor Student Housing project in Charlotteville. Capstone Development Partners is leading the design-build team in collaboration with Elkus Manfredi Architects and joint-venture contractors Hoar Construction and Hourigan. The complex will include three new structures totaling 310,000 sf and reaching five and six stories in height.
The University of Miami is planning to construct a residential complex for upper-class students on the Coral Gables campus. Designed by Arquitectonica, the 573,804-sf facility will comprise two towers offering a majority of single-occupancy rooms. The first building will rise nine stories high and provide more than 730 beds throughout 222 units, and the second ten-floor structure will house over 720 beds across 207 units.
The University of Utah is building a $155 million dormitory complex in Salt Lake City as part of a public-private partnership with American Campus Communities. Designed by Ayers Saint Gross and MHTN Architects, the six-story residence hall will add 1,446 beds for first and second year students.
Purdue University broke ground on the $187 million Academic Success Building in Indianapolis in April of 2025. Designed by Perkins&Will and Browning Day, the 248,000-sf facility will optimize student outcomes through experiential education, and foster connections with corporate partners and the local community. Four floors of the 15-story structure will provide active learning classrooms, wet and dry STEM laboratories, and maker spaces.
Simmons University is partnering with Skanska to create Longwood Place, a vibrant nexus for research, work, and community engagement in Boston. Featuring 2.6 acres of public space, the mixed-use project will leverage sophisticated amenities to transform the district into a destination for economic growth and innovation. The redevelopment of the university’s residential campus in Fenway will provide over 1.3 million sf of Class A lab and office environments, retail and community venues, and approximately 380 housing units.
Marian Spencer Hall at the University of Cincinnati was designed using 20 years of data about the size, orientation, and distribution of various spaces in 20 residence halls. The upshot: Residence halls are not just places for students to sleep. They can set the tone for their ability to study, socialize, and engage with the campus community that will be their home for years. How well the facility achieves that balance can help determine a student’s academic success.
The University of Utah opened the Impact and Prosperity Epicenter in August of 2024 in Salt Lake City. Collocating academic, entrepreneurial, and residential functions, the 284,800-sf facility serves as a living and learning community for the David Eccles School of Business. The six-story structure features The Forum, a vibrant gathering place where users from diverse programs can network and collaborate.
