Indiana University of Pennsylvania opened the $90 million Kopchick Hall in November of 2023 in Indiana, Pa. Featuring a state-of-the-art planetarium, the 142,536-gsf facility provides the Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with over 51,600 sf of lab space where students can work side-by-side with faculty on shared research projects. Specialized research venues include an imaging lab, an anatomy lab, a laser lab, a circadian rhythm lab, an aquatics facility, and a vivarium.

Touchstone Constructs Seattle Lab & Office Towers

Designed by Niazi Roden, Trinity by Breakthrough will provide 160,000 sf of Class A lab and office environments complemented by world-class amenities. The six-story facility will offer flexible floorplates of up to 40,000 sf serviced by robust mechanical and electrical systems. A jettied ground floor will create sheltered areas for informal interaction and exchange while maximizing the public outdoor landscape.

University of Southern California Plans Discovery and Translational Hub

The University of Southern California is planning to construct the $315 million Discovery and Translational Hub on its Health Sciences Campus in Los Angeles. Designed by SmithGroup, the seven-story, 220,000-sf building will provide advanced biomedical research environments in a ratio of 75 percent wet lab to 25 percent dry lab. Sited atop two additional levels of subterranean shell space, the state-of-the-art facility will include collaboration areas, offices, meeting venues, a biorepository, and a core lab for medicinal chemistry.

The University of Kentucky broke ground in October of 2023 on the $380 million Health Education Building in Lexington. Representing the largest academic development in the university’s history, the 500,000-sf facility will strategically collocate programs in medicine, public health, nursing, and health sciences. Approximately 77 percent of the space will be devoted to education and training, including 25 percent for teaching labs and classrooms, and 34 percent for simulation and experiential learning.
