Stanford University has a new four-story Center for Clinical Science Research, designed by Ove Arup & Partners of San Francisco to withstand a major earthquake. The facility incorporates base isolators designed by Earthquake Protection Systems Inc. of Richmond, Calif.

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation is scheduled to open its new $120 million, 300,000-sf campus in Palo Alto in September. The project consists of two buildings that accommodate the 140-doctor medical group, the research division, and the educational outreach group.

Ellerbe Becket of Minneapolis and RMW Architecture and Interior Design of San Francisco designed the facility; Swinerton Inc. of San Francisco was the general contractor.

Lucent Technologies' Titania division has completed construction of a new 65,000-sf building at the Carlsbad Research Center to house labs, a cleanroom, offices and support space for Lucent Power Systems. The designer of the project is Smith Consulting Architects of San Diego, Calif.

Santa Clara University has plans to build a new multimillion-dollar business school campus and library. The projects will be officially announced in March 2000, the 150th anniversary of the institution.

Ericsson Inc. may expand operations at its 118-acre campus in Research Triangle Park following the liquidation of its real estate holdings around the world. The RTP site houses the company's mobile phone R&D unit.
