University of Idaho Develops Idaho Place

Published 10/23/2002

The Universityof Idaho is leading the development of Idaho Place in downtown Boise. Consolidating the University of Idaho’s and Idaho State University’s many existing Boise programs, the mixed-use center may also include other higher education institutions that have been invited to participate. The combined educational, retail, and residential center will be sited on an approximately 10-acre parcel and will provide opportunities for business, industry, and government to collaborate in research and public service. Ground was broken in late 2001, with completion of the first phase slated for early 2004. Goals for the mixed-use project include providing educational opportunities for diverse, non-traditional students, regional economic development, and the creation of an urban knowledge-based destination neighborhood that is pedestrian-focused without compromising vehicular convenience.

Included in the Idaho Place project is the Idaho Water Center Project, a water research and policy facility hosting a collaboration of government, business, and higher education partners.  Including 220,000-sf of office, research, classroom, support, and parking facilities, the building is a component of both Idaho Place and the Ada County Courthouse Corridor Development.

NBBJ of Seattle and ZGA of Boise are the planners and designers for Idaho Place.
