Crawford Long Builds New State-of-the-Art Hospital

Published 5/22/2002

Crawford Long Hospital’s new $270-million hospital and headquarters features a new medical office tower and state-of-the-art facilities. Having received approval from the state two years ago to redevelop its aging campus, Crawford Long and Cousins Properties Inc. have partnered to build one of the largest hospital construction projects ever undertaken in Georgia. The six-story hospital will consolidate outpatient services from several buildings and will house an emergency department triple the size of current facilities. Physicians will be located directly above the patients they serve. Valet parking will be available on the new outside parking deck. The hospital is crowned with a 14-story, 365,000-sf medical office tower. A birthing center with all maternity services consolidated on a single floor will house 36 mother-baby suites, 11 labor and delivery rooms with ornately tiled bathrooms, and general and special needs nurseries. The completely redesigned Carlyle Fraser Heart Center will occupy one floor of the hospital. Cancer care services will be housed in the Agnes Raoul Glenn building, a separate facility dedicated to hospital and community education. The medical office tower has recently opened, with the hospital to open in phases commencing in August 2002. The final grand opening is slated for spring of 2003.
