Purdue University Develops Civil High Performance Structures Lab

Purdue   Universityis developing the Bowen Civil High Performance Structures Lab, a large-scale laboratory for the Civil Engineering department. The 52,500-sf facility will encourage multi-disciplinary research and testing efforts in materials, geotechnical, structural and construction engineering.  With a mezzanine, upper and overhead walkways, two metric ton overhead cranes, conference rooms, offices, and shops, the facility will accommodate infrastructure research in new sensing technologies, the design and application of intelligent materials, and the study of the seismic response of structural systems. Sited on ten acres, the facility is expected to reach completion in August 2003, with an official dedication in October.
