Lewis & Clark Community College Constructs The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center

Lewis and Clark Community College will begin construction in spring of 2007 on The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center. To be built near Godfrey, Ill., at the confluence of the Mississippi, Illinois, and Missouri Rivers, the river ecology center will provide space for teaching and public outreach as well as developing watershed and river management strategies. The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center has received $3.5 million in federal funding and was awarded $6.7 million by the State of Illinois in October 2006; total project cost is estimated at over $10 million. Completion is slated for spring of 2008. Partners in the project include the Illinois Natural History Survey  and the University of Illinois.
