Louis Stokes VA Medical Center To Build New Patient Tower

Published 7/16/2006

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has selected Cannon Design and Westlake Reed Leskosky to design a new eight-story patient tower for the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The tower will be located on the center’s Wade Park campus. The 268,000-sf facility will house the hospital’s comprehensive rehabilitation center, nursing and home care department, mental health department, and a number of other patient care programs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2007 and reach completion in late 2009.

Consolidation of inpatient facilities at the Wade Park campus will create a state-of-the-art facility that integrates all spectrums of care, including acute, tertiary, rehabilitation, and long term care. The consolidation plan is anticipated to save the agency approximately $25 million a year. Cannon Design will provide healthcare planning, architectural design, and a portion of the mechanical and electrical engineering for the new tower. Westlake Reed Leskosky will serve as architect/engineer-of-record and will be responsible for the expansion and renovation of the central plant, the structural design of the tower, as well as portions of the architectural, mechanical, and electrical design of the tower.
