NorthBay Healthcare Lowers Operating Costs With Siemens Technologies

Published 8/29/2007

NorthBay Healthcare has contracted Siemens Building Technologies to implement facilities improvements at its Fairfield and Vacaville, Calif., hospitals. Through energy efficiency upgrades and retrofits, NorthBay will save energy costs and improve staff and patient comfort. Upon completion, the two hospitals combined are guaranteed to save 2,765,634 kWh of electricity annually, equating to a substantial savings over the 10-year life of the performance-based contract.

Providing cost savings as well as better control of the facility environment, the upgrades will also cause a significant reduction in environmental emissions. Facility-wide improvements will include electrical, HVAC, automation and controls, lighting, and waste management. The project will also feature a newly configured chilled water system featuring variable frequency drive (VFD) pump motors. Additionally, a cogeneration system will provide nearly 30 percent of the total annual kWh reductions at both facilities. The project is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 17 million pounds over the ten year contract. Siemens Building Technologies is headquartered in Buffalo Grove, Ill.
