The State of New York has selected Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) in conjunction with Cameron Engineering to design the new $190 million New York State Center of Innovation and Excellence in Homeland Security in Bethpage, N.Y.  The center will foster the development, evaluation, and deployment of national and state security solutions through applied science. The 65,000-sf facility will house approximately 20 research cells, a main computer and communications complex, a modeling and simulation lab, a digital theater, and an integration and demonstration center. It will also feature a large lecture and conference hall with broadband capabilities to link it with other organizations that are part of the network of Homeland Security Centers of Excellence, which include facilities at Texas A&M University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Southern California.
