Published 11/24/2010

The renovation of Science Campus IV for Western Kentucky University has been awarded to Ross Tarrant Architects with RFD (Research Facilities Design) as laboratory design consultant. This will be RFD’s third project on campus in the last 10 years, having designed the laboratories for the Complex for Engineering & Biological Sciences and Snell Hall. The project will encompass a multi-phase/mid-year renovation of Thompson Complex Center Wing and the Hardin Planetarium, buildings which are part of the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. Thompson Complex Center Wing, built in 1967, encompasses 118,000 sf on four levels. Hardin Planetarium, built in 1967, encompasses 6,000 sf on two levels. There may be additional space developed for new Ogden College programs such as SkyTeach. The total projected costs are currently estimated at $39 million. The schedule is not yet determined and will be based on required phasing and availability of constriction funds.
