The Department of Defense’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency has completed construction of the Forensic Identification Laboratory in Oahu, Hawaii. Designed by SmithGroupJJR, the three-story, 136,497-sf project will aid in the investigation, recovery, and accounting of Americans lost during the nation’s past conflicts. Located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the flexible research facility houses a BSL-2 lab with 70 examination tables, a complete forensic medicine suite, a DNA lab, a material evidence and life support investigation lab, and serene spaces for family viewing of the deceased. SmithGroupJJR also provided MEP engineering and laboratory planning and programming services for the project.
