3M Opens Research and Development Lab

Published 3/23/2016

3M opened a $150 million research and development laboratory in March of 2016 in St. Paul, Minn. Sited on 10 acres, the collaborative 470,000-sf facility will accommodate up to 750 scientists from across 3M's industries, including electronic materials solutions, safety and graphics, and aerospace and commercial transportation. The four-story laboratory was designed by BWBR Architects and built by Kraus-Anderson Construction. Located on 3M's Maplewood headquarters campus, the building features many of 3M's products, such as wind-resistant windows, self-dimming lights, and advanced adhesives. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project, which has a 640,000-gallon storm water retention pond located under the facility.
