UCHealth Expands Longs Peak Hospital

UCHealth is expanding the Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont, Colo., to foster improved patient outcomes and ensure the provision of high-level care in response to growing need in the surrounding community. Designed by Page, the three-part project will add 89,000 sf to the hospital campus and 35 beds, as well as 30,000 sf of interior renovation on the first three stories. The most recent phase comprised two new operating rooms, nine pre- and post-anesthesia care unit bays, three labor and delivery rooms, a caesarean-section room, and a helipad.

Additionally, an expanded emergency department offers seven new exam rooms and three fast-track rooms, complemented by a new sterile processing hub. An infilled courtyard accommodates a kitchen and dining area. Improvements are also being made to the clinical laboratory and the pharmacy, alongside further settings for facilities management, environmental services, clinical engineering, and IT and support systems. The utility plant will also be built out to increase capacity.

Renovations on the respiratory clinic are expected to follow later in 2025. Future construction will deliver nine medical-surgical and 10 progressive-care inpatient rooms, an electrophysiology lab, and outpatient X-ray and CT venues. Shell space will enable future growth for additional operating rooms or the cardiovascular and imaging departments.

McCarthy is the general contractor for the expansion, which is slated to open in 2026. Cator, Ruma & Associates, Walter P Moore, JVA Consulting Engineers, and Jensen Hughes are lending their engineering expertise to the project. Other team members include BHA Design, FD2S, SLR, Lerch Bates, Envision Planning, Cevian, Ricca Design Group, Trautman & Shreve, Sturgeon Electric Company, Zimmerman Metals, SNS Iron Works, Integrity Fire Safety Services, Heggem-Lundquist, Encore Electric, Commercial Flooring Services, Soderberg Masonry, and Douglass Colony Group.
