Daikin Applied is constructing an advanced research and development test lab at its headquarters in Plymouth, Minn. The $163 million facility will accelerate the creation of next-generation cooling technologies for hyperscale data centers and traditional HVAC markets to address intensifying demand driven by the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.
Furthering product innovation by replicating the operating conditions of modern high-density computing environments, the 71,000-sf structure will accommodate four test cells focusing on validating airside technologies under real-world extremes to enhance reliability and rapid commercialization. This expanded capacity will catalyze discovery across the company’s established cooling and heat pump segments and streamline the design, testing, and deployment of critical infrastructure to meet evolving customer needs in digital industries.
The dynamic center will also support ongoing training and development for engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams. Phased commissioning for nine test cells is already underway and occupancy is slated for 2027.
