Grand Sierra Resort and The Meruelo Group broke ground in October of 2025 on a 10,000-seat arena in Reno, Nev. Designed by Gensler, the $435 million facility will serve as the future home of the University of Nevada Men’s Basketball team and will feature modern amenity spaces such as luxury suites, hospitality clubs, and an immersive fan experience zone. Creating a vibrant atmosphere, the 300,000-sf multifunctional structure is projected to host an estimated 95 events annually, ranging from Northern Nevada sports games to musical concerts.

The world-class arena marks the first phase of the property’s $1 billion redevelopment initiative. Representing the largest private investment in the city’s history, the decade-long masterplan will reactivate disused areas within the existing casino complex to drive economic growth and create a fully integrated district for 24/7 entertainment and hospitality. The 140-acre site will reimagine the Grand Bay aquatic golf facility, as well as housing a new community ice rink, a 2,800-space parking garage, and a central, fan-oriented plaza. An 800-key hotel tower will be added in a later phase.

Martin-Harris Construction is the general contractor for the Grand Sierra Resort Arena, which is slated for occupancy in fall of 2027. Gensler is also providing masterplanning services for the wider expansion.
