Hastings College Dedicates Science Center
Hastings College dedicated the $12 million Morrison Reeves Science Center in October of 2009 in Hastings, Neb. The 55,000-sf facility houses teaching labs, research labs, and classrooms for instruction in biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology. Construction began on the sustainably designed science center in mid-2007.
Globalfoundries Builds Fab 2
Globalfoundries is constructing the $4.2 billion Fab 2 in Malta, N.Y. Sited on 223 acres in the Luther Forest Technology Park, the 1.45 million-sf project is comprised of four buildings. Featuring a 300,000-sf Class 100 cleanroom, the chip manufacturing campus will employ over 1,400 people. Construction of Fab 2 will reach completion in 2011 with production commencing in 2012. M+W Zander is providing full architectural, engineering, and construction management services for the project.
Onset Announces Energy Measurement and Verification System
Onset, a leading supplier of data loggers, announced the release of HOBO® Measurement & Verification System in October of 2009. HOBO® is a portable energy logging system for measuring, analyzing, and documenting building energy performance. The self-contained system makes it convenient and economical for energy performance contractors, energy consultants, and building energy managers to track the performance of building systems, such as chillers and packaged HVAC units, and verify the impact of energy efficiency improvements.
University of Rhode Island Breaks Ground on College of Pharmacy Building
The University of Rhode Island broke ground in October of 2009 on a 148,000-sf facility for the College of Pharmacy in Kingston. Housing leading edge teaching and research labs and business incubator space, the $75 million facility will support programs in pharmaceutics manufacturing, pharmacognosy, 3D visualization, and histology. The building will include lecture halls, classrooms, a patient clinic, tissue culture, and a 3D visualization auditorium.
El Camino Hospital Opens Acute Care Center
El Camino Hospital opened its $480 million acute care center in Mountain View, Calif., in October of 2009. Construction began on the five-story, 450,000-sf addition in 2004. The 241-bed facility was designed by KMD Architects of San Francisco. The seismically sound expansion features robotic technologies for surgery and the transport of medical supplies.
