HHMI Partners with University of KwaZulu-Natal on HIV-TB Research
Howard Hughes Medical Institute is partnering with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, to construct a $20 million HIV and tuberculosis research facility. Integrated with the Doris Duke Medical Research Institute at Nelson Mandela Medical School, the six-story facility will include two floors of high level biocontainment laboratories.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital Constructs Patient Tower
Sarasota Memorial Hospital will begin construction in October of 2009 on a $186 million renovation and expansion of its healthcare campus in Sarasota, Fla. Slated for completion by 2013, the project includes a new nine-story patient tower as well as expanded labor and delivery facilities. More than doubling the number of private patient rooms, the renovation will also include additional space for neonatal care, cardiology, surgery, and orthopedics. The general contractor for the project is Skanska USA.
SAS Builds Cary Data Center
SAS is planning to construct a $70 million data center at its headquarters in Cary, N.C. The 38,000-sf facility will support research and development in cloud computing, which enables customers to utilize multiple central servers for computation and services delivery with access provided over the Internet. SAS is a maker of business intelligence software and predictive analytics.
Robinson Memorial Constructs Streetsboro Health Center
Robinson Memorial Hospital is building the $13.5 million Robinson Health Center in Streetsboro, Ohio. The 75,000-sf project will open in July of 2009 and will house inpatient and outpatient care; women’s services; MRI, CT, and X-ray imaging; pediatric and orthopedic specialties; and a sleep center. General contractor RMH Construction began work on the three-story building in April of 2008.
Brookhaven College Breaks Ground on Continuing Education Facility
Brookhaven College, part of the Dallas County Community College District, broke ground on the 28,000-sf Workforce and Continuing Education Building in March of 2009. Located in Farmers Branch, Texas, the $6 million facility was designed by SHW Group of Dallas. Occupancy is slated for January 2010. More than 15 new classrooms will be built, all of which will have laptop carts so they can be used as either a traditional classroom or a computer lab.
