The University of Edinburgh broke ground on a £58 million biomedical research center in December of 2008. Located on the University’s Easter Bush campus in Roslin, U.K., the project will house laboratories and offices for research in genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, immunology, infectious diseases, and animal sciences. The facility is slated for completion in 2011 and will be complemented by a new veterinary teaching building and small animal hospital. The project architect is CUH2A.

Methodist Hospital System is building a 192-bed hospital in west Houston. The facility will include 14 operating rooms, radiation therapy, emergency, women’s services, and labor and delivery. The Methodist Imaging Center will feature a 64-slice CT scanner, PET/CT, and two MRIs. The hospital will also house centers of excellence in cancer, cardiac care, and orthopedics for Texas Medical Center.

Indiana State University is engaged in a $30 million renovation of the 70-year-old University Hall on its Terre Haute campus. The sustainably designed project features the use of recycled steel, natural lighting, thermal pane windows, fin coil tubing heaters, and an HVAC system with individual room controls. The renovation is expected to save the University $1 million annually in energy costs. Completion is slated for fall of 2009.

Texas Children’s Hospital is building the $220 million West Campus in Houston. The 536,000-sf pediatric health complex is sited on 55 acres and will include medical offices, advanced imaging, and day surgery. The campus will feature an 180,000-sf ambulatory care building that will open in late 2009.

Methodist Healthcare completed the 341,000-sf expansion of Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in November of 2008. Located on 37 acres in Sugar Land, Texas, the expansion triples the size of the existing hospital and features a multi-story atrium and healing gardens. The project was designed by the Houston office of HOK.
