Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine Builds Stem Cell Facility
The Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine will break ground in January of 2009 on a $115.2 million stem cell research facility in La Jolla, Calif. The Sanford Consortium, a nonprofit research group comprised of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, Scripps Research Institute, the Salk Institute, and UC San Diego, received $43 million in May of 2008 from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). The 130,907-sf, four-story building is slated for completion in December of 2010.
Carrier India Builds Gurgaon R&D Center
Carrier India, an air-conditioning and refrigeration manufacturer, broke ground on its Research & Development Centre in Gurgaon in September of 2008. Part of a $50 million investment in Carrier’s Indian operations, the project will be built to meet LEED sustainable design criteria and is slated for completion in 2009. The building will house facilities for product development, engineering, research, and training. Carrier India is a subsidiary of Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp.
RainDance Dedicates Lexington Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility
RainDance Technologies dedicated its new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Lexington, Mass., on September 26, 2008. The 28,000-sf facility will house administrative offices and commercial manufacturing operations. RainDance Technologies is a provider of droplet-based microfluidic solutions for human health and disease research.
Florida State University Dedicates Science Facility
Florida State University dedicated the $55.8 million James E. King Jr. Life Sciences Teaching & Research Center in Tallahassee on September 12, 2008. The 181,000-sf facility was built by LLT Building Corp. and is expected to attain LEED sustainable design certification. Housing teaching and research space for FSU's Department of Biological Science, the project was designed by Elliott Marshall Innes of Tallahassee with Lord, Aeck & Sargent as architect of record.
Towson University Builds College of Liberal Arts Complex
Towson University is building a new College of Liberal Arts complex in Towson, Md. The academic facility will house technology-rich classrooms, lecture halls, seminar rooms, faculty offices, and basement space. The construction manager is The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. The first phase of the project will include 110,000 sf and is slated for completion by fall of 2009. The second phase will add another 250,000 sf and will reach completion in summer of 2011. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
