D'Youville College Builds Academic Center
D'Youville College will initiate construction in May of 2008 on a $20 million academic center on its West Side campus in Buffalo, N.Y. Designed by Cannon Design, the 93,000-sf, six-story facility will house classrooms, laboratories, faculty and administrative offices, conference rooms, and space for a pharmacy program. The project manager is Savarino Cos. of Buffalo.
Cookeville Regional Medical Center Constructs Patient Tower
Cookeville Regional Medical Center is constructing an $80 million, 228,000-sf patient tower in Cookeville, Tenn. The six-story north tower is slated for completion in October of 2008 with a grand opening slated for early 2009. The project began construction in fall of 2006. The project includes a two-story atrium lobby and two entrances. The second floor will house a cancer center featuring a TomoTherapy unit, a new technology for radiation treatment of cancerous tumors.
University of Kansas Medical Center Creates Life Sciences Incubator
The University of Kansas Medical Center has received a $3 million grant from the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce to create a life sciences incubator. The $6.25 million project includes renovation of the on-campus Breidenthal building to create a 40,000-sf facility housing laboratories, offices, commons, telecommunications, and a 6,000-sf wet lab. The incubator will support 10 companies.
Esco Launches Laminar Flow Cabinets with Microprocessor Control
Esco has launched the new range of Airstream Horizontal and Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinets (AHC-_D_, AVC-_D_ models) with the Sentinel Delta(TM) Microprocessor Control. Laminar flow cabinets must operate within a specific airflow envelope in order to provide optimum product and cross contamination protection. Contamination can result in experimental failures, leading to loss of productivity. For decades, conventional cabinets have used pressure gauges to monitor the pressure drop across the HEPA/ULPA filter, as a means of monitoring operating status.
Scripps Facilities Near Completion in Jupiter
Scripps Research Institute is constructing three buildings totaling 350,000-sf on 40 acres adjoining Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter. Slated for completion by year-end 2008, the facilities will house biomedical research laboratories, technology space, and offices. A grand opening is set for Feb. 26, 2009. The buildings under construction at Scripps Florida include the Molecular and Biomedical Research building, the Advanced Technologies and Administration building, and the Drug Discovery building.
