University of Missouri Breaks Ground on Patient-Centered Care Learning Center
The University of Missouri School of Medicine broke ground in July of 2015 on the $42.5 Patient-Centered Care Learning Center in Columbia. The 97,000-sf facility will provide simulation training suites, an anatomy learning center, an auditorium, classrooms, offices, conference rooms, and 30,400 sf of Patient-Based Learning (PBL) labs. The project is designed by BNIM of Kansas City and is being built by J.E. Dunn Construction Group. Occupancy is expected in 2017.
Penn State Opens Health and Human Development Building
The Pennsylvania State University opened the $59 million Health and Human Development Building in University Park in July of 2015. Designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the 140,000-sf facility provides laboratories, classrooms, conference rooms, a student commons, faculty offices, and administrative space to support the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project, which includes 40,000 sf of renovated space in the former Henderson Building South.
Frontage Labs Opens Clinical Research Center
Frontage Labs opened a 36,000-sf clinical research center in Secaucus in July of 2015. Designed by DMR Architects, the facility provides a biomedical laboratory, 160 observation beds, exam rooms, administrative offices, dining facilities, a recreation center, and a pharmacy. The project was developed by retrofitting an existing building to meet the specifications of Frontage Labs, an early-stage drug development company based in Exton, Pa.
Valley Health System Builds Henderson Hospital
Valley Health System began construction on Henderson Hospital in July of 2015. The 245,000-sf project is part of the Union Village medical complex, a $1.2 billion mixed-use development in Henderson, Nev. The acute care hospital will provide emergency services, advanced imaging, surgery, and maternity care. The general contractor for the project is Turner Construction. Occupancy is expected in October of 2016.
University of Queensland Opens Oral Health Centre
The University of Queensland opened the $100 million Oral Health Centre in Brisbane in July of 2015. Located next to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Herston, the seven-story, 48,400-sf facility provides dental clinics, lecture and seminar rooms, simulation training labs, two surgical suites, biomedical research space, and a Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) biosafety lab. The project features demonstration chairs equipped with integrated recording and streaming technologies for the documentation of procedures.
