Edmonton Clinic Plans Integrated Research and Healthcare Facility
The Edmonton Clinic, a partnership of the University of Edmonton and Alberta's Capital Health, will begin construction in 2007 on a $589-million, 1.6 million-sf facility in Edmonton. Integrating healthcare, research, and learning, the project will include over 61 groups from both the private and public sector including pharmaceutical science and rehabilitation medicine.
University of Saskatchewan Develops Vaccine Institute
The University of Saskatchewan has begun construction on the $110 million International Vaccine Center (InterVac) in Saskatoon. Designed by Smith Carter of Winnipeg, the 165,000-sf facility will include large animal testing facilities and BSL-3 containment laboratories for infectious disease and vaccine research.
University of Alaska Builds Integrated Science Center
The University of Alaska is constructing the $87-million Integrated Science Center on its Anchorage campus. Designed by a joint venture of ZGF of Seattle and ECI/Hyer of Anchorage, the 128,000-sf facility will house classrooms, administration, a vivarium, a planetarium, and 24 interdisciplinary laboratories. The CM-at-risk for the project is Cornerstone Construction Company. Site work began on the center in September of 2006 with completion expected by fall of 2009.
West Virginia University Opens HSC Learning Center Library
West Virginia University (WVU) has completed construction on its $16-million Health Sciences Center Library and Center for Learning in Morgantown, West Virginia. Opening for classes in January of 2007, the facility combines library and classroom facilities in a progressive design that also accommodates lecture halls, auditoria, and a national center for Positron Emissions Tomography (PET) education.
Santa Clara County Constructs Forensic Laboratory
Santa Clara County is building a $74-million forensic crime laboratory in San Jose, Calif. The four-story, 90,000-sf facility will be the first government-owned laboratory in the San Francisco Bay Area with a DNA analysis system when it opens in 2008. The project, which will enable the study of physical evidence from crime scenes including toxicology, latent print processing, and substance analysis, began construction in May of 2006.
