Elan Corp. Plans South San Francisco Expansion
Elan Corp. is planning the $100-million construction of two buildings in South San Francisco. Totaling 185,000 sf, the three-story facilities will be owned by developer Chamberlin Associates and leased by Elan, enabling the pharmaceutical firm to hire an additional 500 employees. The project is being designed by Dowler-Gruman Architects.
Cadence Breaks Ground on San Jose R&D Facility
Cadence Design Systems broke ground in February 2007 on a five-story, 208,000-sf R&D center in San Jose, Calif. Housing engineering research in integrated circuits and electrical systems for the electronics industry, Building 10 will enable the consolidation of Cadence’s research and development operations in a single collaboration-enhancing technology center.
Providence Health System Expands Holy Cross Medical Center
Providence Health System has selected HMC Architects of San Diego to design the $143-million expansion of Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Calif. Slated for completion in 2010, the project consists of a four-story tower addition housing a women’s services department with labor, delivery, and neonatal ICU; general acute care; surgery, recovery, and endoscopy; an intensive care unit; a chapel; and dining areas.
University of Texas Austin Renovates Experimental Science Building
The University of Texas, Austin will renovate the 256,000-sf Experimental Science Building to accommodate modern academic science with technology-enabled classrooms, offices, and undergraduate teaching and research labs. The $125-million project will help to recruit and retain faculty in the fields of neuroscience, computational biology, environmental sciences, pharmacy, and molecular and cellular biology.
Idaho State University Develops Center for Advanced Energy Studies
Idaho State University is partnering with the Idaho National Laboratory to construct the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls. The CAES facility will be an international user facility for promoting and performing research and revitalizing education and training in nuclear energy science, engineering, technology, and related disciplines. The facility is expected to encompass 50,000 gsf to 60,000 gsf with approximately half of the building dedicated to laboratory space. Occupancy is slated for 2008.
