Texas Children's Hospital Plans $1.5 Billion Expansion and Renovation

Texas Children’s Hospital is planning a $1.5 billion renovation and expansion of its Houston facility. The project includes a $575-million maternity center; a $220 million children’s satellite hospital in West Houston; a $215 million comprehensive neurological research institute combining research and clinical treatment; and a $120 million expansion of the existing Feigin Center for Research. An additional $370 million will fund new equipment and information systems. Completion is slated for 2010.

University of Memphis Initiates Infrastructure Improvements

The University of Memphis in Tennessee will spend $36 million on four major infrastructure improvement projects. The first is the $15-million installation at the relocated Law School of two to three 1,000-ton chillers and three to four 100,000 pound-per-hour natural gas fired boilers to provide steam and chilled water. The project was designed by Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects of Memphis. Construction will begin in summer of 2007 with completion slated for spring of 2008.

GlaxoSmithKline Builds Dungarvan Facility

GlaxoSmithKline is constructing a 2,500-square meter facility in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland. The €23 million investment will provide space for granulation and compression operations for over-the-counter medicines.

Florida Atlantic University To Create New Academic Medical Center

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is planning to construct the $400 million Charles E. Schmidt Medical Center on 38 acres of its Boca Raton campus. The new academic medical center will be created as a partnership between FAU, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Boca Raton Community Hospital.
