University of Hawaii Develops College of Tropical Agriculture Facilities

The University of Hawaii is developing two new projects for its College of Tropical Agriculture. The Komohana Agricultural Complex in Hilo will be renovated and improved to house state-of-the-art labs, offices, greenhouses, and support spaces. Completion of the $14.5-million facility is slated for August 2007. In Molokai, a permanent facility will be constructed for the Molokai Extension Program which currently operates out of a renovated farm building. The $1.1-million project is expected to reach completion in March 2007.

UT-Houston Medical School Breaks Ground on New Research Facility

The University of Texas Medical School at Houston broke ground in April 2005 on a new 208,500-sf research facility. The six-story, $78-million project will house four floors of research programs in neurobiology, the molecular biology of human pathogens, structural biology, and physiological genomics/systems biology. The top two floors of the facility will house a new animal care center to replace the one destroyed by Tropical Storm Allison in 2001.

Pfizer Contructs Michigan Production Facility

Pfizer has selected CRB Builders of St. Louis as construction manager for a $20-million production facility located at the pharmaceutical company's manufacturing complex in Portage, Mich. The facility, referred to as Building 248, is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2006. Building 248 will produce Pfizer's Dectomax and Revolution animal health products.

University of New Mexico Opens Mass Spectrometry Facility

The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque opened its new $1.2-million mass spectrometry facility in April 2005. Located in the School of Chemistry, the facility will accommodate chemical and medical research. Funding for the project came from twelve entities in the University of New Mexico and the National Institutes of Health.

Igloo Products Expands Katy Facility

Igloo Products Corp. has consolidated its corporate headquarters and Houston-based distribution operations in a new facility in Katy, Texas. Comprised of an 87,000-sf office site and an 805,000-sf manufacturing and distribution facility, the building includes a high-bay warehouse with special fire protection attributes and a large manufacturing space with the complex mechanical infrastructure to support plastic extrusion molding stations.
