Piedmont Triad International Airport Expands with New Concourse
Piedmont Triad International Airport has awarded John S. Clark Co. of Mount Airy the $2.9 million construction contract for a new 41,550-sf concourse. The expansion will accommodate eight gates, departure lounges, and a concession area.
Protein Design Labs Opens Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant
Protein Design Labs opened a new 210,000-sf biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Brooklyn Park , Minn., on July 22, 2004 . The facility will start producing monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of medical conditions by 2007.
NIST Opens Advanced Measurement Laboratory
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has completed the new Advanced Measurement Laboratory (AML ) in Gaithersburg , Md. The $235-million facility accommodates research in nanotechnology, semiconductors, biotechnology, advanced materials, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing. Completed in December 2003 and officially opened in June 2004, the AML features five separate wings with stringent environmental controls on particulate matter, temperature, humidity, vibration and electromagnetic interferences. New Alabama State Criminal Justice Facility Completed
The new $28-million State Criminal Justice Facility in Montgomery, Ala., has been completed by Birmingham-based Doster Construction. Designed by PH&J Architects of Montgomery , the building will house the Alabama Department of Corrections, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Alabama Department of Pardons and Paroles, the Highway Patrol, and a central energy plant. The facility was constructed at the former site of the 400,000-sf St. Margaret’s Hospital.
University of Hartford Breaks Ground on ISET Complex
The University of Hartford celebrated the groundbreaking of the $32-million Integrated Science, Engineering and Technology (ISET) Complex in West Hartford, Conn., on June 16th, 2004 . The complex is comprised of the new 37,000-gsf ISET Building , the renovated 105,000-gsf Dana Hall, United Technologies Hall, and East Hall. These buildings will house the Engineering and Technology schools, the Integrated Technology program, and the Computer Science, Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Health Professions, and Psychology departments.
