Stanford University Establishes Center for Probing the Nanoscale
Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., has been awarded $7.5 million over five years from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to establish the Center for Probing the Nanoscale (CPN). The CPN is one of six new NSF-funded centers for the development of science and engineering at the scale of the nanometer. The CPN, a partnership between researchers at Stanford, IBM, and other companies, will occupy offices and a teaching laboratory in Stanford's Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials.
University of New Mexico Hospital Expands Children's Hospital
The University of New Mexico Hospital will initiate a $233 million expansion of its Albuquerque Children's Hospital in fall of 2004. The 487,000-sf project will include six new floors of clinical space, an improved emergency department, and a new maternity center. Completion is expected by fall of 2007.
Arkansas Department of Health Builds New Lab
Opening in early 2006, the Arkansas Department of Health 's new $23-million, 82,000-sf public health laboratory will serve as a first responder facility, accommodating biological and chemical terrorism preparedness reaction for the state.
Saint Thomas Health Services Breaks Ground on Family Health Center South
Saint Thomas Health Services broke ground in early fall 2004 on the $3-million, 9,000-sf Family Health Center South in Nashville, Tenn. Replacing the existing South Clinic, the facility is slated for completion in late spring 2005. Saint Thomas Health Services is owned by Ascension Health.
The Home Depot Constructs Austin Data Center
The Home Depot has purchased a 158,300-sf facility in northeast Austin, Texas to house its new data center. The center will employ approximately 500 workers when it becomes operational by spring of 2006.
