Santa Clara University Plans New Library Facility
Santa Clara University is planning to construct a new 194,000-sf library on its Santa Clara, Calif., campus. Funded in part by $17 million in contributions from private donors, the library will feature collaborative spaces for small groups, reading and research rooms, traditional study carrels, open stacks, a special collections archive, and an automated retrieval system enabling the library to store and access over a million volumes.
DeKalb Medical Center to Build New Patient Tower
DeKalb Medical Center is planning a $48.5-million project: construction of a new five-story freestanding patient tower and renovation of existing facilities at its campus in Decatur, Ga. Including replacement facilities for the hospital's labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn nursery units, surgical preparation and recovery areas, and patient/family waiting areas, the patient tower will feature larger rooms, more privacy, and greater efficiency.
Columbia St. Mary's Plans Mequon Hospital Expansion
Columbia St. Mary's is planning a $100-million expansion of its Mequon hospital campus. Designed by Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum of St. Louis, the 330,000-sf project includes the addition of 77 beds and the construction of an ambulatory care center. Ground will be broken on the expansion in summer of 2005 with completion to follow two years later. Doubling the size of the current hospital, the project will include:
Antioch University McGregor Plans Campus West
Antioch University is planning to construct a 60,000-sf facility for the Campus West extension of its McGregor campus. Anchoring the Business and Education Park in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Campus West will begin construction in June 2005 with a grand opening slated for spring of 2007. Including a central three-story library and reading room, the Campus West facility will be two- and three-stories tall.
Arnold Palmer Hospital Constructs New Trauma Center
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women in Orlando broke ground on the $11-million Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center in October 2004. The 23,500-sf facility will house 33 beds, including four trauma bays, thirteen beds for emergencies, and sixteen beds for minor conditions and injuries. Slated to open in late 2005 or early 2006, the center will feature a helipad with a connector to Arnold Palmer Hospital and the Hospital for Women & Babies.
