Columbus State Community College is planning to construct a second campus on 108.66 acres in Delaware County. Campus plans describe three 70,000-sf facilities constructed at a cost of $43 million. The first building will house classrooms, computer labs, and various business functions. The campus, which will relieve space pressure at Columbus State’s downtown campus, may take up to four years to open.

Johns Hopkins Hospital has completed the design of a new $47-million complex to be located in Baltimore, Md. Linked to the existing campus and the planned cardiovascular care tower and children’s hospital by a pedestrian bridge, the complex will include a 750,000-sf parking garage with 2,200 spaces, a 24-truck loading dock, a service tunnel, a central kitchen, and a distribution center. Designed by Thornton-Tomasetti-Cutts of Washington, D.C., the project is expected to reach completion in 2005.

Santa Clara-based Intel is engaged in a $2-billion conversion of Fab 12, its Chandler, Ariz., plant, from the production of 200mm wafers to 300mm wafers. Slated for completion in late 2005, the project includes the modification of the interior of the cleanroom to house the increased size of the 300mm production equipment. As the first entire conversion of an existing 200mm fab to a 300mm fab, the project provides space to double capacity. The larger wafers require 40 percent less energy and water for each chip produced, diminishing the overall use of resources.

Aurora Health Care is planning an $85-million, 88-bed hospital as part of a new medical campus on the Pabst Farms development in the Town of Summit, Wis. Sited on 184 acres, the new full-service hospital will feature the latest equipment for diagnosis and treatment, a comprehensive electronic medical record system, and all-digital diagnostics. 

North Carolina A&T State University has broken ground on a new 74,000-sf science facility on its Greensboro campus. Construction cost for the project is $13.5 million; with laboratory equipment and fit out, the total project cost will be $20.5 million. Project contractor F.N. Thompson Co. of Charlotte is slated to complete construction on the three-story building by January 2006. Housing the departments of chemistry and psychology, the building will forward the school’s medical research efforts.
