Stony Brook University Breaks Ground on Medical and Research Translation Facility
Stony Brook University broke ground on the $194 million Medical and Research Translation (MART) building in November of 2013. The eight-story, 250,000-sf facility will accommodate up to 250 faculty members working in collaboration with physicians and medical professionals to develop advanced cancer treatments and medical imaging technologies. MART will provide 25 cancer biology labs, a 30-room cancer clinic, a 30-station clinical infusion center, a 300-seat auditorium, 12 classrooms, and conference rooms.
MaineGeneral Medical Center Opens Alfond Center for Health
MaineGeneral Medical Center opened the $312 million Alfond Center for Health in November of 2013 in Augusta. Featuring entirely private rooms, the 640,000-sf, 192-bed hospital provides spacious surgical suites, procedure rooms, an emergency department, a cardiac catheterization lab, an education and conference center, a helipad, outpatient clinics, and inpatient rooms. The facility has separate public and patient transport corridors. Construction began on the project in August of 2011.
Columbia University Medical Center Plans School of Nursing
Columbia University Medical Center will begin construction in late 2014 on a new School of Nursing facility. The seven-story, 68,000-sf facility will provide advanced, flexible learning spaces, research suites, an atrium lobby, and event areas. Designed by a joint venture of CO Architects and FXFOWLE Architects, the project will feature a two-floor simulation training center with three clinical teaching skills labs housing 14 exam tables with mannequins and six beds.
White Plains Hospital Expands in New York
White Plains Hospital is expanding and renovating its New York campus. Phase Two of the hospital's $108 million capital transformation campaign began in October of 2013. Designed by Perkins Eastman, the project will provide a six-story patient care building with two medical/surgical floors and 24 private patient rooms; a five-room surgical suite; an expanded radiology department; and a front entrance and lobby. Phase Two comprises 42,000 sf of new construction and 22,000 sf of renovation. Completion is expected in 2015.
Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital Opens in Birtinya
The $105 million Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital will open in November of 2013 in Birtinya, Queensland. Providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, the 200-bed hospital will provide six operating rooms, a cardiac catheterization lab, a day surgery unit, ICU, a procedure room, an eight-bed day oncology unit, medical offices, imaging, pathology, and entirely private patient rooms. The facility is located on a shared campus with the $2 billion Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital which is currently under construction.
