C.R. Bard Develops Covington Facility
Medical products supplier C.R. Bard has selected Pattillo Construction Co. to develop its new 411,100-sf distribution center in Covington, Ga. The building will be sited in the Lochridge Industrial Park on 38 acres of land. Completion is expected in November 2003.
Omega Protein Corp. Builds Processing Facility
Houston-based Omega Protein Corp. is constructing a 60,000-sf fish oil processing facility in Reedville, Va. Built by Suitt Construction of Greenville, S.C., the $16-million project will produce more than 110 tons daily of proteins derived from fish oils. A separate mechanical building will house boilers, air compressors, cooling towers, chilled water equipment, and wastewater pretreatment. The facility is expected to reach completion in May 2004.
University of Maryland Develops Biomedical Research Park
The University of Maryland-Baltimore’s planned Biomedical Research Park in West Baltimore has received $4 million to assist startup companies from the state’s Sunny Day Fund. The funding will enable young companies to make needed office and lab improvements.
FDA Opens Irvine Laboratory and District Office
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has opened a new regional headquarters that includes the agency's district office and a modern, multi-purpose laboratory. The new regional headquarters, which completes the FDA’s consolidation of 18 outdated laboratories around the country, is located in Irvine, Calif., and will serve the Southwest Pacific Region. Situated on a 10-acre plot purchased from the University of California, the facility will replace a 50-year-old lab in Los Angeles and the district office currently located in Irvine.
Cornell University Constructs Milstein Hall
Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., has contracted Turner Construction Co. to build the $18-million Milstein Hall School of Architecture. Turner’s Buffalo and Albany offices will oversee the project.
