Kennesaw State University Develops Student Housing
Kennesaw State University is developing University Place, comprised of 11 three-story residential buildings and a 1,500-car parking deck. The $61-million, 700-bed project is a public-private venture built not with taxpayer dollars but with tax-exempt bonds and a nonrecourse loan. The 196-unit development included the Kennesaw State University Foundation's purchase of nine private homes and an existing apartment complex, which also helped fund the project.
Washingtonian South Offices Built for Life Science
Orix Real Estate Equities of Chicago is planning to build Washingtonian South, a two-building, 350,000-sf Class A office complex and parking structure in Gaithersburg. Located on a 7.4-acre site in the mixed-use Washingtonian Center business park, the development will be marketed to health and life science tenants. Construction is slated to begin in the fall.
Alamo Community College District Opens Advanced Technology Center
Alamo Community College District recently celebrated the opening of its Advanced Technology Center (ATC). The workforce training center, sited at KellyUSA, features video teleconferencing capabilities to connect multiple classrooms with company sites worldwide. Fostering ties with the aerospace, defense, and IT industries, the ATC will provide training in avionics and computer-integrated manufacturing.
RTI International Plans RTP Expansion
RTI International (RTI), formerly Research Triangle Institute, plans to double its 750,000 sf of lab and office space in Research Triangle Park as part of a 15-year facilities plan. RTI is also planning to expand its European and South African operations. Launching a campaign to double revenue and support further independent research, the nonprofit organization is pursuing an aggressive growth plan to become a premier research institute.
Bank One Contracts EMCOR for Facilities Management
Bank One has entered into a three-year agreement with EMCOR Group to provide comprehensive facilities and maintenance services for all of Bank One's locations nationwide. EMCOR will provide comprehensive facilities services, including operations, maintenance and supervision, for approximately 2,200 Bank One facilities, representing 34 million sf of space in 30 states.
