Genencor Manufacturing Facility Planned
Industrial biotech company Genencor is planning a 22,000-sf manufacturing facility in one of the following cities: Palo Alto, Calif., Belois, Wis., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Elkhart, Ind., or Rochester, N.Y. Based in Palo Alto, Genencor currently has 1,300 employees. The new facility will manufacture larger quantities of human therapeutics that Genencor is currently researching for healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.
FedEx Contract Approved
The $503,000-million contract for FedEx's Greensboro hub was recently approved by the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority. Included on the project team is engineering firm Baker & Associates, based in Pittsburgh, Pa. with an office in Greensboro; ECS, a geo-technical company; and Regional Land Surveyors.
EMC Corp. Builds New Engineering/Office Facility
EMC Corp.'s new 650,000-sf engineering and office facility is currently under construction in Hopkinton. Gorman Richardson Architects, based in Hopkinton, designed the facility and an additional parking garage planned on the campus.
Brown University of R.I. Plans Biotech Projects
Brown University of Rhode Island selected Hopkinton, Mass.-based Gorman Richardson Architects to design several projects on the school's Bio-Medical Campus.
National Center for Children's Rehabilitation Opens in Washington
The National Center for Children's Rehabilitation, created in partnership by the Children's National Medical Center and the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH), is scheduled to open July 1 in Washington. The top floor of NRH's three-story northwest D.C. facility will be renovated to create 15,000- to 25,000-sf of space housing an initial 10 beds to care for patients age 12 to 18.
