NCSU To Build Veterinary Medicine Research Addition
North Carolina State University (NCSU) is planning a $31-million, 103,000-sf research addition to the School of Veterinary Medicine. Designed by Flad & Associates, the four-story building will house research labs, offices, and conference rooms. A new subsurface infrastructure tunnel will provide utilities to the facility. The addition is expected to open in October 2004. The School of Veterinary Medicine is located on the Centennial Biomedical Campus, now part of NCSU's Centennial Campus.
Sovereign Bancorp Opens New Philadelphia Headquarters
Sovereign Bancorp will open a new Centre Square headquarters and bank branch in Center City, Philadelphia. The 30,000-sf facility will include commercial loan and trust/wealth management operations in the branch. The building will open on August 12th, with the public grand opening celebrated September 23 and 24. Designed by Hillier, the building will house a new bank vault that required the installation of steel support beams.
Illinois Wesleyan University Completes Ames Library
Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) in Bloomington has recently completed the 103,000-sf Ames Library designed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott (SBRA). Felmley-Dickerson Co. of Bloomington was the contractor for the five-story library, which provides a centerpiece for social and academic interaction, collaborative study and reflection. The library also establishes a new focal point for the campus.
University of Chicago Builds Graduate School of Business Campus
The University of Chicago has awarded the Chicago office of Turner Construction Company the contract to build a new $125-million campus for the Graduate School of Business. Turner is the construction manager at risk for the project, which is scheduled for completion in August 2004. The architect is Rafael Vinoly Architects of New York, N.Y., and the development manager is Mesirow Stein Real Estate of Chicago.
DPT Labs Builds for R&D in San Antonio
DPT Laboratories Ltd. of San Antonio, a developer, manufacturer, packager and distributer of over-the-counter and prescription skin-care products for pharmaceutical companies, is in the process of completing a $5-million, 32,000-sf R&D facility housing additional chemistry labs and accommodating 75 scientists. The building will both support DPT's contract manufacturing operations, as well as provide expansion space for the company's live-cell therapy research.
