Goucher College Completes Residence and Renovation Project

Goucher College of Towson, Md., has completed construction of a new 21,000-sf residence hall, as well as expansion and renovation and of the 74,350-sf Heubeck Hall. Both projects were designed and built by the Boston offices of Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Architecture & Engineering.

Washington University Completes Student Housing Project

Washington University's Small Group Housing project was recently completed by McCarthy. The $44-million fast track project, designed by architect Mackey Mitchell Associates of St. Louis, totals 218,000 sf in four separate buildings. Included in the structures are 440 beds, dining and food service facilities for 600, classroom areas and a great hall containing extensive millwork. Construction was completed in 14 months.

Center for Emerging Technologies Developed in St. Louis

The Center for Emerging Technologies (Building II), a new 50,000-sf incubator facility designed by architect Mackey Mitchell Associates, houses high-growth, advanced technology companies. The building, originally built in 1907 for the Dorris Motor Car Company, provides open loft office space with an industrial character and is thoroughly wired to meet demanding electronic needs. Called "accelerator" space, it provides areas for expansion for companies still in product development.

Georgia Aquarium to Open in 2005

The Georgia Aquarium has selected Heery International Inc. of Atlanta as construction manager for building the world's largest aquarium. Heery's role will be the oversight and management of all project stages. Slated to open in 2005, the $200-million, 250,000-sf aquarium will feature a 5 million-gallon exotic aquatic animal tank. Brasfield & Gorrie LLC of Kennesaw will manage day-to-day construction operations.

Huawei Technologies Builds Corporate Data and Command Center

The Huawei Technologies Corporate Data and Command Center, a 130,000-sf facility designed by RTKL’s Applied Technology Group in Baltimore, Md., is now under construction in Shenzhen, China.  Huawei is a leading supplier of telephone switching equipment in China. The ‘world class’ command center includes an executive briefing room overlooking a two-story, 50-seat command center station. The center supports an equipment load of 40w/sf in 20,000 sf of space, with expansion at the same load density up to 40,000 sf.
