Toyota Considers Georgia for New Plant

Japan-based Toyota Motor Corp. is considering sites in Georgia, Tennessee, or Alabama for a plant manufacturing 4.7-liter V8 gasoline engines. To be completed by 2004, the plant will produce 100,000 to 150,000 new engines per year and cost approximately $266 million.

New Capital One Headquarters in Tysons

Falls Church-based Capital One selected 28 acres in Tysons as the site for their new headquarters. Due to be completed in September of 2002, the 14-story building will house 800 people and consolidate five offices.

Mellon Consolidates Offices

A new 83,000-sf building in Plymouth Meeting will house the consolidated offices of Mellon Financial Corporation. Mellon will house many of its Montgomery County offices in 50,000 sf of the facility which is currently under construction by a Fox Cos. affiliate. Approximately 230 employees will be housed in the new building, named Mellon Gateway Center.

Kaiser Replaces Vallejo Facility

A new hospital and parking garage will replace Kaiser Permanente's Vallejo Medical Center. As well as meeting new state earthquake standards, the facility will increase licensed bed space from 294 to 332 and add a 1,100 space parking garage. Ground will be broken on the parking garage in summer of 2001 and be completed in 2002. The hospital will be built between early 2004 and 2007.

University of California Plans Merced Campus

The tenth University of California campus will be located in Merced, in the Central Valley of California. Design and construction of the 2,000-acre site will be managed in a joint venture of Parsons Brinckerhoff and The JCM Group. The campus will accommodate 25,000 graduate and undergraduate students at full build-out.
