Zygo TeraOptix Expands in Westborough
Zygo TeraOptix Inc., based in Holliston, Mass., has a $9 million renovation and expansion under way in Westborough at a newly purchased 87,000-sf facility. A 33,500 sf expansion will create a new floor within one section of the structure that has 50-ft-high ceilings, bringing the total space available to 120,000 sf. Employees will begin occupying approximately 30,000 sf of the building in December 2000, while renovations to the electrical and HVAC systems are ongoing.
Loudon Tech Center Being Developed in Sterling
Loudon Tech Center is a new $10 million, 25,000-sf data center under development in Sterling by Colo.com. The company, based in California's Silicon Valley, is focussing on much smaller data centers than are currently being built, offering speed to market, customer service, and security as benefits of the smaller facilities. Colo.com opened a similar data center in Vienna, Va., in early 2000.
Associates of Cape Cod Builds Diagnostics Production Facility
Associates of Cape Cod Inc. (ACCI) is building a new 79,000-sf FDA-validated production facility for diagnostics in the Falmouth Technology Park. ACCI manufactures endotoxin diagnostic assays extracted from the blood of horseshoe crabs. Laboratories will feature state-of-the-art technology. The cleanroom production areas include Class 100 formulation and filling suites, accessible through airlocks. The production process and facilities will be fully validated in accordance with FDA cGMP requirements.
US SEC Plans Consolidated HQ in D.C.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has solicited proposals for a 630,000-sf headquarters site in order to consolidate its Washington, D.C., operations now housed in two locations. Boston Properties, a Boston-based real estate investment trust, was expected to submit a proposal by mid-December 2000 to use one of its properties, currently a parking lot within walking distance of the new Washington Convention Center, as the location for the project.
BudCo. Plans New HQ in San Antonio
BudCo. of San Antonio Ltd. has plans for a new headquarters and warehouse facility on a 40-acre site in southwest San Antonio. Scheduled groundbreaking is for mid-January, with completion by October or November 2001. Hollerman Duitsman Architects of Saint Louis designed the facility, which will accommodate 98,000 sf of office space and 190,000 sf of distribution space. The project manager is James Pritchard & Associates; the general contractor is Hooker Contracting Co. Inc. of San Antonio.
