Procore Provides Secure File Sharing Application for Construction Management
Procore Technologies launched a new file storage and synchronization application for construction management in January of 2015. Procore Drive allows teams to share and collaborate on large files without the impediments of FTP clients or other cumbersome file sharing solutions. Designed to increase project efficiency by streamlining communication, the application delivers the speed, security, and scale required by enterprises to collaborate between mobile devices, laptops, and desktop computers.
University of San Diego Builds Institute for Nursing Research, Advanced Practice, and Simulation
The University of San Diego is building the $18 million Betty & Bob Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, Advanced Practice, and Simulation. Ground was broken on the three-story, 30,000-sf building in May of 2014 and completion is expected in fall of 2015. Designed by gkkworks in association with The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the facility will house classrooms, faculty offices, three research units, the Dickinson Simulation and Standardized Patient Nursing Center, and the Krause Doctoral Research Library and Study.
American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute Opens in Detroit
The American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute opened in Detroit in January of 2015. The $148 million facility was created by a public-private partnership that includes the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Alcoa, Boeing, Johnson Controls, and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. The 100,000-sf center provides research, development, and production space to support the creation of advanced manufacturing technologies using lightweight metals and alloys.
Montana Tech Breaks Ground on Natural Resources Research Center
Montana Tech will break ground in April of 2015 on the $10 million Natural Resources Research Center in Butte. Representing an expansion of the existing Engineering Laboratory Classroom Building, the three-story, 32,000-sf addition will provide instructional space, a student project studio area, and labs for nanotechnology, energy, and petroleum research. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2016.
Penn Medicine Plans Philadelphia Hospital
Penn Medicine is planning to build a 700-bed medical complex for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in Philadelphia. Designed by Foster + Partners of London in association with HDR, the $1.5 billion project will include an inpatient tower, 50 operating rooms, clinical space, and an emergency department. The facility will be built by Balfour Beatty Construction and L.F. Driscoll at a cost of $1.2 billion.
